The Balance Between External Input and Internal Reflection
The incessant pull to be kept up to date with news and be made relevant through media may not be what all humans actually yearn for at its core. We feed ourselves with nourishment and make ourselves relevant through coming to know ourselves, which requires a balance of external and internal input.
We watch and listen to details of news stories or opinions hoping to glimpse truth, gain understanding, find resolution to our problems, be distracted and entertained. It is certainly wonderful to express, share amazing ideas and thought leaders. Is there a balance of support which also includes guidance for internal reflection, listening inwards, and connecting with the wisdom of the natural world around us?
Finding Nourishment Beyond the Noise
Does it ever feel to you as if there’s enough chatter in the world? Can we even hear our own authentic voice underneath?
More, and more, and more. This is the message through our devices. It satisfies a deep, unchallenged belief that who we are right now is somehow inadequate. Is it possible to begin assessing the amount and quality of what we consume and the actual nourishment and fulfillment it provides us?
It is a privilege to get a chance to stop what we are doing and experience self-reflection. To have a moment to stop preferencing what the outside world is doing and listen inside for a bit.
We are each uniquely curious creatures. How would it be to encourage each other to plant seeds that stray from the automatic, consumptive mindset? Creativity is so intelligent and abundantly expressive.
Use of limits on technological use, not as deprivation, but as an opportunity, could lessen our distractibility, and invite a following of our own intrinsic blueprint, turn down the volume on fear mongering, and strengthen new muscles of experiencing time that feels valuable over the long-term for ourselves and others.
